BMI is currently using VMWare to maintain 15 virtual machine clusters. We can provision Windows and Linux virtual machines in BMI research network (CHMCRES and DMZ). As of January 2017, we have more than 800 virtual machines running on 60 physical servers.
Benefits of this virtual environment include the ability to
- Quickly create a virtual machine
- Clone virtual machines across environments
- Ensure uptime using high availability and dynamic migration features
If you are considering purchasing a server, please contact Research IT Support to see if a virtual machine would be a better solution.
