Virtual Servers

Two virtual machine clusters are available on each network tier (internal and external).

BMI is currently using VMWare to maintain two virtual machine clusters on each network tier (internal and DMZ). As of March 2008, we have more than 70 virtual machines of various operating systems (Windows XP/NT/2000/2003, Linux, Solaris) running on eight real servers.

Benefits of this virtual environment include the ability to

  • spawn virtual machines almost on a moment notice
  • clone virtual machines
  • ensure uptime using high availability and dynamic migration features

If you are considering purchasing a server, please contact the BMI Help Desk to see if a virtual server would be a better solution.
