Secure Email and Other Options
Get your Cincinnati Children's email using a secure gateway or SOAP-capable client.
Secure email
BMI is piloting a new secure gateway for Cincinnati Children's email access. Currently, Cincinnati Children's email is accessible through a secure Novel GroupWise client or POP3/IMAP, which is recommended for use only with VPN. In various situations, it might not be possible or convenient to use VPN. Therefore BMI has added servers that introduce a secure SSL layer above POP3, IMAP and SMTP for secure email access without VPN.
In order to use SSL with POP3, IMAP and SMTP, please verify that an SSL option is available in your email client (the common email clients such as Outlook and Mac Mail have built-in support in their recent versions).
Use the following server:
- smail.cchmc.org
And use the following ports for the respective services:
- POP3 - 995
- IMAP - 993
- SMTP - 465 or 4650
If you have any questions, email the BMI Help Desk.
SOAP-compatible email clients
The Cincinnati Children's GroupWise system provides support for the SOAP protocol. This protocol enables SOAP-capable clients to communicate with the GroupWise servers. If you want to access GroupWise using a SOAP-compatible client, please email the BMI Help Desk. BMI will coordinate the migration of your mailbox to a SOAP-enabled GroupWise Post Office.
